Pupil Premium at Rushmere Hall
Back in September 2016 we stopped, reflected and took a fresh look at our Pupil Premium provision. We moved away from what we have always done and developed an approach that takes in to account what our children need. We linked our approach to the schools key values.
We wanted to develop a plan that supports our Pupil Premium children based on the things that may be preventing these children from achieving their full potential, stopping them from acquiring the skills they need for life or inhibiting their aspirations.
Some of our goals may not be measured by judging national curriculum achievements, government data and facts and figures. The success of this strategy is not the number of children who meet the expected standard it is more about whether we have supported children to be successful individuals with the same potential and opportunities open to them as all pupils within this school.
Booster groups or similar are not necessarily what our children need. For some of our children, coaching, 1to1 confidence boosting, a whole school focus on language teaching is all that is required. Our approach has utilised a wide range of evidence from the EFT and the work of Marc Rowland. We have visited schools in Weston Super Mare, Braintree, Hackney and Felixstowe to look at other provision and to take the bits that really do work and bring them here. However, most importantly, the best research is right here. Our staff have the understanding, the knowledge and the school staff know about the strengths and challenges within the school and within the local community. This helps formulate what support we put in place. We know what our children need here... it may not necessarily be the same as other schools, but we know what challenges and issues we face here and therefore some of our initiative may be similar to that of other schools but most are bespoke - relevant to our children and what they need.
Now a year down the line we have reflected on what actually made an impact our children and what didn’t. We do not believe in investing time, energy and money into thing that’s offer no value to the children. So… this is our refined and improved Pupil Premium action plan. A plan that is more focus and now based on evidence which we have gathered, based on our children in our school.

What is Pupil Premium?
Pupil Premium funding is additional funding allocated to all schools to support disadvantaged pupils. Rushmere Hall Primary School receives pupil premium for: children that are cared for or adopted from care; children whose parents are in the armed forces; and for every pupil who has received free school meals over the past 6 years.
How is the funding used?
Rushmere Hall seeks to ensure the effectiveness of its use of the Pupil Premium. We recognise that barriers to achievement take a variety of forms and look for individual ways to support each child to achieve their very best. We do this by offering our children a wide range of opportunities and ensuring that these are accessible for everyone. We work with our families and colleagues to make sure everyone has high aspirations for all pupils. We ensure pupil premium children are well represented and have a voice on our school council and eco committees. In addition, we make use of educational research such as The Sutton Trust-EEF Teaching and Learning Toolkit, to guide us on how best to use the school’s resources to improve the attainment of disadvantaged pupils.
How can I find out if my child is entitled to Pupil Premium funding?
The process for applying is straightforward and confidential. More information is available from the school office. After entering essential details into the web site, the online application process links to the Department for Education system for checking eligibility and gives an immediate ‘yes’ or ‘no’ response, and will notify our school. All enquires will be treated in confidence.
Children in Reception and KS1 are automatically entitled to a free school lunch; however, registering your child for free meals if you are eligible will help provide the school with additional funding which in turn will benefit all pupils.
What is the criteria?
If you receive any of the following benefits your child/children would be entitled to FREE SCHOOL MEALS and other support in school:-
-Income Support
-Income based Jobseeker's Allowance
-Employment & Support Allowance (income related)
-Child Tax Credit (without Working Tax Credit) & an annual income (as assessed by HM Revenue & Customs) that does not exceed £16,190
-Support under Part VI of the Immigration & Asylum Act 1999
-Guaranteed Element of Pension Credit
-28 Day Working Tax Credit run on
